BUDDY DISABILITY TRAINING (BDT) — DIVE WITH PURPOSE
Buddy Disability Training prepares certified divers to safely and effectively assist divers with disabilities in the aquatic environment. This certification combines classroom education, confined-water training, and practical open-water experience.
ALL THREE COMPONENTS ARE REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATION:
Friday, September 25 — Classroom Training
8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Saturday, September 26 — Pool Training
9:00 AM–6:00 PM
Sunday, September 27 — Ocean Training & Final Exam
8:00 AM–2:00 PM ocean session, followed by the final exam.
Participants must successfully complete the classroom, pool, ocean, and examination requirements to earn Buddy Disability Training certification.
COURSE ENROLLMENT REQUIRED
This session is only for individuals who are already enrolled in the Buddy Disability Training course. Registering for this event does not enroll you in the certification course.
Register here for the Buddy Disability Training Course.
Course enrollment may be:
- Purchased enrollment, or
- Scholarship enrollment for approved applicants who agree to serve as a volunteer with Adaptive SCUBA Programs (Aquanauts Adaptive Aquatics, Inc.) for a minimum of 12 months following certification.
Scholarship participation is intended for individuals who will use their training to support our adaptive diving programs. Scholarships are limited, must be approved prior to attending the course, and preference is given to active volunteers.
IMPORTANT: Please plan to attend all three scheduled training days. If you are unable to complete one of the required components, credit for the components you successfully complete may be applied toward a future Buddy Disability Training session. However, BDT sessions are generally offered only every 5–6 months, so missing a component may significantly delay completion of your certification.
Buddy Disability Training is about more than learning new dive skills. It prepares divers to become capable, confident buddies for individuals who may require additional assistance before, during, or after a dive.
Dive with Purpose.
